Challenge Quilts

Each year the Guild has a Challenge Quilt for its members. Below are the rules for our next Challenge, due February 2011.

ECQG 2011 Challenge
“You’re My Best Friend”

Due February 2011 Guild Meeting

We have all been influenced by the people we love. Sometimes we already like the same music, or colors, or pastimes, and sometimes we grow to like these things because our friends do. As artists we owe a great debt of gratitude to the ones we care about the most. They encourage and enable us to do the work we love, whether they are quilters or just love a quilter.

This year’s challenge is to tell a story about your best friend. Maybe it’s your sister, someone you went to school with, a neighbor, a dog, or a sewing machine. Whoever (or whatever) your best friend is, your challenge is to help us understand why you are friends, and what makes that person special to you.

Perhaps your quilt will include your best friend’s favorite color, or pattern, maybe it will depict a place you both love or maybe it will be a portrait quilt. The viewer should be able to understand something about your relationship just by looking at your quilt.

Requirements:

Two people are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. You may work on your quilt with a friend from the guild and submit your work together if you like.

Friendship binds us together, your binding must be obvious, and either in color or design it should draw attention to itself.

Friendship shines like a star, and you must use a friendship star somewhere in your quilt.

A friend loves at all times and you must use a heart somewhere in your quilt.

Your quilt must tell a story about your friend or about your friendship.

Our friends support us, and your quilt must have a sleeve for hanging that is in compliance with the AQS guidelines found here.

Our friendships define us. Your quilt must measure at least 30" on a side and no more than 60" for a total perimeter maximum of 120" to 240"and must have a label letting us know who you are.
