“Autumn Splendor” was made by more than 60 ECQG members over a year’s time and represents over 400 hours of work. The appliqué is all hand-stitched, the blocks are machine pieced and guild member Bella Bamert completed it with machine quilting. The quilt is 92”x92”.
The medallion-style quilt’s focal point is a feathered star variation inset with an eight-pointed star and surrounded by basket blocks. The 36 star blocks are a variation of the LeMoyne star with the addition of four-patches. The blossom portion of the outer flower blocks is named variously “One Way,” “Wild Geese,” and “Trip to the Alter.” The quilt was constructed using a mix of batik and high-quality 100% cotton fabric.
The design was adapted by guild member Linda Simons from Edyta Sitar’s “Common Bride”© pattern, used with permission from Laundry Basket Quilts. The photo credit goes to guild member Cindy Rounds Richards.
