Saturday Workshop: Plot Twist with Anna Maria Horner

Please join us for Anna Maria’s Saturday workshop, when we will be making her Plot Twist quilt, built on a wide striped foundation that continues to change its tune as a twisting, flowering vine passes through it. The structure of this design employs simple patchwork but a clever sequence of building blooms invites variety and interest and is very simple to scale larger or smaller.  As the focus is on the applique, Anna Maria will share a few approaches and considerations when preparing shapes for machine & hand applique. The pattern offers notes for creating multiple sizes – baby – twin/full – queen/king- all with an (optional) unexpected interjection of a sawtooth strip ripping through the background. Techniques you will learn in this class include fabric selection, improvisational applique, hand needle turn applique, raw edge machine applique, curved bias strip applique, compositional planning and layout, and the use of mylar and acrylic templates for cutting and pressing applique. Anna Maria will have a pop-up store at this workshop, including the In Bloom templates mentioned in the Supply List.

Please bring your sewing machine (with cords, foot pedal, presser feet, extension cord, etc) and all the usual supplies you bring to a workshop (thread, scissors, cutting mat, rulers, rotary cutter, etc).

Registration is open to all.  Workshop registration opens to members on July 5, 2023. Registration opens to non-members on August 5, 2023. This workshop is limited to 20 students. Registration is made by payment of the workshop fee and is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment must be made by credit card at the time of registration to secure your place in the workshop. Workshop Fee: $55 Members / $65 Non-Members (the pattern is included in the workshop fee, and will be provided at start of class)

Cancellation Deadline is September 15, 2023. You must notify programs@ecqg.com at least 14 days prior to the workshop to receive a refund. In accordance with Square’s policy, a processing fee of $1.90 will be deducted from any refunds.  Workshop fees are non-refundable after this date. Workshop registration is non-transferable.

Deadline to register is 5 pm the day prior to the workshop (subject to availability).

 IF  the tickets for this workshop are sold out, and you would like to be placed on the wait list, please submit the following form and we will contact you if/when a spot becomes available.  If/when you are contacted that a space has opened up, you must reply and purchase your ticket within 24 hours, or we will move to the next person on the wait list.
