Golden Scissors / Thimbles

The Golden Scissors and Golden Thimble charms are honors awarded to recognize members who complete a large quilt.  Assembly and quilting must be done entirely by the member.  Many members stitch their Golden Scissors and Thimble charms to their name badge and wear them proudly! Once you’ve signed up with the Golden Scissors Committee Chairperson, you’ll be all set to show your quilt to the meeting.  Volunteers will hold your quilt while you take a few minutes to talk about it.  The photographer will snap your photo with the quilt for the website and newsletter.

Requirements

  1. The quilt must be completed within one year of the date the scissors are awarded.
  2. The quilt must be the sole work of the member. “Cheater” cloth quilts are not accepted.
  3. All quilting must be completed by the member.
  4. Size minimum is 280 inches along the perimeter.
  5. The quilt must be presented to the Golden Scissors Committee Chairperson before the ECQG meeting is called to order. The quilt shall be measured and the criteria recorded. The Golden Scissors charm will be presented to the maker, who may display the quilt during the Golden Scissors portion of the ECQG meeting.
  6. A quilt that qualifies for the Golden Scissors Award (as noted above) and is entirely hand quilted by the member qualifies for a “Golden Thimble” Award charm.
