Zoom-Bees, the brainchild of Chris Ison, launched in March 2024, and is open to all guild members. This month, in addition to the regular 2nd Saturday meeting, we are going to have another Zoom-Bees meeting on the 4th Saturday. All members are welcome to attend. The next 2nd Saturday meeting will be July 12.
Meetings are from 10am to Noon, and you can drop in at any time. If you want to join, please email Chris Ison for the Zoom link.
“I thought it was a great idea,” said E. J. Stapler, known informally as the Queen Bee. “It provides a lot of flexibility because we are geographically spread out. It also provides an opportunity for people who can’t come to guild meetings.”
Members like the Zoom format for a variety of reasons and many are also members of face-to-face bees.
“I like the small group,” said Eileen Wright. “I consider myself an introvert and I am more socially brave on Zoom. I joined the guild for community. With this meeting, you get to know people better and I always learn something new and interesting.”
Another advantage is seeing members in their workspace.
“I’ve learned a lot about organizing fabric and a quilting workspace,” said Diana Venters. “I’ve gotten great ideas from these experienced quilters.’
Zoom-Bees are eco-friendly. Members don’t have to get dressed, do hair and makeup, and spend time in traffic. There is also immediate gratification when it comes to seeing current or former work because members can easily produce quilts. Also within easy reach are patterns, templates and handy gadgets.
“It’s wonderful to share ideas with like-minded sewists and get advice for my projects,” said Karmen Sunshine. “I like to see what they are working on, too.”
