MATRIOTISM

Celebrating 250 Years of Inspirational American Women Through Quilts

The members of the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild hail from around the greater Atlanta area and gather to enjoy educational programs, share quilting information and nurture friendships old and new. Members share a passion for the quilting arts and are dedicated to the mission of the Guild: to promote and advance the art of quilting and to foster community goodwill. Membership is open to anyone interested in quilting.

Each year, the Guild sponsors a quilt challenge. In 2025, the theme was “Matriotism – Celebrating 250 Years of Inspirational American Women Through Quilts”.  As the nation commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, it’s important to recognize the women who have shaped our nation, many of whose contributions have been overlooked or overshadowed.

Members researched and designed their original works, with these challenge rules:

  • The quilt must celebrate an inspirational American woman (or group of women) who made an impact on our country over the last 250 years.
  • The piece must have three layers – top, batting, and backing.
  • The perimeter of the quilt must be between 80 and 180 inches.
  • The quilt must have been made between January and October 2025.

The resulting quilts celebrate women of all backgrounds, whose achievements in the arts, government, science, social and community service, and family life have shaped our nation.

ECQG has arranged for the Matriotism quilts to be exhibited at venues around Georgia in 2026 and 2027.  Note: The exhibits at each location will vary and may not include all the Matriotism quilts due to space limitations. As of now, those venues are:
